  2.                 Review: POWER Disk magazine

  5. It's not often that you see  one diskmag reviewing another -
  6. unless of course you  happen  to  be  reading  this issue of
  7. Atari Update! Power is a diskmag written and edited by James
  8. Mathews of Salisbury. It's  on  issue  #19, now, and nearing
  9. its second birthday. But is  it  a  good  read? We shall dig
  10. deep into the realms of darkness and find out (what? - Ed).
  11.  
  12. Power is written by normal ST users like you and me, and all
  13. the articles are displayed by  a  very easy-to-use shell. It
  14. doesn't use  GEM,  so  I  doubt  that  the  shell  is Falcon
  15. compatible, but it's still very  friendly. The latest issues
  16. have been introduced by some  very nice intros; my favourite
  17. was issue #16 where the  drive  light  blinked (we won't use
  18. flashed for those of  you  with  dirty  minds)  to the tune.
  19. After you've seen the intro, the  main shell is loaded. From
  20. then on, music is played  constantly (like on this diskmag),
  21. although if you don't want  to  hear  it, you just turn down
  22. the volume!  So,  the  shell's  nice.  But  what  about  the
  23. articles? After all, they're the  most  important thing in a
  24. diskmag aren't they?
  25.  
  26. The majority of articles are  good, although they do contain
  27. the odd swear word now  and  again. Some articles are pretty
  28. pointless, although you  may  find  them  funny. Having said
  29. that, most of the diskmag is well written and although there
  30. are quite a few grammar  and  spelling mistakes, it's a good
  31. read. And because it's Shareware, if  you don't like it, you
  32. don't pay for it. A nice, well-written and produced magazine
  33. on disk. Well done, James!
